Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

Ask City Hall HomeThis is a featured page

Welcome to ASK CITY HALL -- a place where neighborhood councils and stakeholders can ask questions of elected officials and staff at L.A. City Hall, and hopefully get answers in writing, because everyone deserves an answer.

This It is also a place where City Hall can post questions for the public.

There are two ways to post a question:

One. Click on the EasyEdit icon above and insert your question at the end of the this text ... just like using a word processing program. Or you can check the panel on the left to see if there is a special page for your category of question. You may also indicate which city agency you would like to respond. Please consider including a date at the end of your question so we can congratulate those agencies that respond promptly.

Example:

Jane Smith: What does the Fire Department do with its used hoses?
Fire Dept:

Two. Scroll to the bottom of this page and post a question as you would do on a discussion group.

The moderator(s) may move questions around to ensure that they are in the proper section. They will also contact the agency from which you are seeking an answer if the agency doesn't respond quickly.

Why doesn't the Civil Service Committee for the City government have civil service exams so that the city will have a pool of competent personnel for city positions when vacancies occur? and using the first year on the job as the probationary period? thereby having a place to get rid of the deadwood.

Food for thought!
Prehaps there should be a council person, and a vice council person, assembly person and vice assembly person, and so on. The council person, etc would be elected. The vice council person, etc would be appointed by the council person, and would serve as the chief of staff of that council district. In case the council person had to leave office for whatever reason, the vice would serve out the term.

What happens if the City of Los Angeles goes bankrupt? What does that mean for those living within the city? What would that mean for employees of the city?

If a sitting state assembly member leaves her or his seat in mid term, what will the cost be to the tax payers to hold a Special Election to fill that seat?
